ON ROTATION

(Photos by: TR) (Top: SUNO, Bottoms: 18th Amendment, Head Scarf: Vintage, Sandals: Rood & Haan Co., Jewelry: Hinu, Dezso, and Michele Leong)

My accessories were on high rotation over the weekend. I pretty much ended up wearing the same thing every day. Not because I had no other choice or anything like that. The whole accessory getup seemed appropriate for the weekend.. especially the head scarf turned turban. It is a functionality and decorative aspect of summer style for myself. It keeps my seaweed hair out of the way and adds a bit of color and dimension to any of my outfits. I’m especially keen on finding vintage scarves. They are really hard to come by. I’ll search any where from Savers, Salvation Army and the occasional Ebay browse. When you find a good one it’s like finding gold!!

Anyway, these quick snaps were taken right before we rushed down to the pool. I cannot remember the last time I lounged at any pool let alone order drinks and pupu’s. Can you tell I’m not used to that kind of life?? Haha. Most of the time you’ll find me in my little hut in the country sitting on a futon munching on granola or something. Hah. But it was such a nice treat. Maybe I could move to Bali and have that lifestyle for real?! But that’s a whole other category of possibilities.

So into the summer with my accessories on high rotation!

FASHION ON STAYCATION

(Photos by: TR) (Top: Roxy, Pants: India Street Find, Bikini Top: Raisin by Roxy, Head Scarf: Vintage, Jewelry: Hinu, Dezso, Michele Leong, Pouch: Samudra)

I got to spend the Memorial Day weekend in Waikiki for a little “staycation”.. something rarely done. And so I guess this is what fashion looks like when you’re on vacation on your home island?? Hah.. a little bit of this and that pulled together. I literary grabbed a bunch of stuff from my closet and threw it into a bag hoping it would all work out. No thought or pre-meditated fashion here! I suppose it did work in its own way.. a gypsy kind of way.

I have to admit: I forgot how beautiful Waikiki and it’s ocean is. All different shades of blue speckled with people on boards, yachts, and canoes. It’s kind of nice to be relaxing by the pool with live Hawaiian music playing. No wonder tourists buy into it so much!

It was such a nice little getaway. I’d hope to think it will happen more.

BEACH OUT

(Photos from: here)

Okay. Let’s get real for a second. Beach + Fashion. Right up my alley. I’ll take one of everything.. especially if it says Isabel Marant on the label. And that hand-embroidered, patchwork vest. Is it Chanel?? Okay Thanks.

I love when summer time rolls around and so do magazines filled with beached out, bleached out, and sun out fashion, clothing, editorials, the works. It’s when I get the most inspired and pumped up. Pumped for the place that I live, the profession I am in. What a dreamer.

I promise if I ever get a hold of that vest I will wear it to the beach and get beached out in the sun. Promise.

INTERSTELLAR OVERDRIVE

(Photos from: Here)

Color is king.

I don’t know how they did this but I’ve always had big dreams of doing something similar. I even had a friend buy me Holi powder while she was in India because I thought it would achieve the effect. Haha.

Absolutely amazing. They achieved the perfect aesthetic. Sister is still looking neglected and collected in a cloud of colorful mist. I love the contradiction. It’s such a great concept of color and fashion. I’ll take the stained, damaged clothes now. Kay Thanks.

Now excuse me while I attempt my interstellar overdrive. Heh.

HELL-AYE

I have [once again] managed to leave my space on the internet untouched for too long. Last week I left these precious cluster of islands and crossed the pacific ocean to do some work in LA – Hell-Aye. Which is why lady slider has been a stagnant pool of salty water. But have no fear: I was able to get some snaps during my busy schedule and thought I would share them. I even managed to squeeze in some time in front of Diamond Head.. in Los Angeles none-the-less!! Hehehaha.

I am [almost] not joking when I say that the flight attendants had to roll me off the plane when I got home the other day. I ate my way through LA this time around. Guh, I love a city with good places to eat. But I’m gonna have to watch my self from now on. LA looks like it is going to be a regular occurrence for me and I don’t want to start any unhealthy habits.

Friends friends. I promise you I have all kinds of adventures to share but need to find the time to sit down and let um loose. I’ve had some really encouraging comments, emails, etc. the last couple of days and super duper appreciate the people who are actually interested in the things I do and care to dial in every once in a while. You guys are all da besssss!

Enjoy these Hell-Aye snaps!

INTO THE DEEP BLUE

(Photos by: TR)

It’s official: Summer is here. The last of the waves have come and gone and now we have to look to town for waves! But in the meantime: we’ll be dipping into the ocean without boards and snorkel in hand.

We took a couple snaps with our trusty GoPro, dodged a couple eager tourists, and made our way out into the deep blue ocean. I’m really look forward to long sunny days, cloudless skies and more time getting to know the sea. I’ve decided for as much time I spend in the water I know so little about my salty friend. I kind of want to dedicate this summer to understanding and getting to know the ocean on a deeper level. That sounds really hippie, doesn’t it? Well, true it is. The tides, the creatures, the activity, the works. A self taught marine biologist if you will. Hahhh. We’ll see. It’ll be an ongoing challenge to myself.

In the meantime: I’ll be diving deep into the blue they call sea.

COASTAL LIVING

(Photos from: here)

I’ve been crazy about nesting lately. I’ve actually been for years.. but now I feel like I can finally let loose and splurge on some nest essentials. While I was browsing through my usual internet spots I decided to check out Anthropologie’s latest look book. Oh me oh my do they know how to get a coastal girl excited! I’m fixated on that little tent number they’ve got going on. Who wouldn’t want to pitch a tent in the tide and have a cocktail?! So I might not be able to do it in the ocean.. but it’s encouraged my idea of pitching a TeePee in my front yard. Haha. We’ll see how that goes over..

I think Anthro has got such a great selection of ceramics, textiles, and other home goods for the hip-hearted coastal girl this time around. I can always appreciate some thing in their catalogs to get inspired or to start building my online shopping cart. Ehehe.

I don’t like to let a lot of people in on my little internet finds and ideas [I’d like to think I’ve got some kind of special talent with it and can should be hired to find cool things on the internet and around the world. You think I’ve got a chance at it?? haha.) but I thought you guys should know. If you don’t already of course.

Oh man, this gets me so excited though! Just the simple idea of having plants around to soak up the summer sun and relaxing in a well nested pad. I cannot wait for summer to be in full effect. I’m already preparing!!

To the summer, coastal living and the perfect nesting finds!!

PLANTY TO PARTY

(Photos by: J. Dow, Michele Leong, and me)

Among the whirlwind of a month I have been having I was able to sneak in a little plant party over the weekend. A couple of friends and I partook in some good old fashion gardening.. with style. We had some yummy mimosa’s and snacks in my yard, planted a couple succulents, and our dear friend Jason taught a couple of us girls how to make coconut leaf hats!!

Coconut leaf hats. It was a dream come true for me. I have always wanted to own one.. but to actually make it for myself?! Dreamy. Such a treat. And I have been obsessed with succulents lately. About a month ago I bought heaps of succulents via ebay (of all places.) They all needed a bit of love and replanting. Some of them.. okay most of them.. stayed with me. But a couple of them got new homes.

Since I have been out of surf sliding commission (Due in part to a surf injury two weeks ago. Yes, sad but true. I didn’t want to make it a big deal so I never mentioned it. But 2 weeks later and I’m just about healed!) it was the perfect opportunity to get rootsy. All in all: such a nice, relaxing day.

And now there are plenty of plants to go around!
