The last leg of our trip [that was photographed] was in Northern California. Because of my little visit to the emergency room, a part of our trip had to get cut short and we had to jam through most of Southern California. But upon entry to California we headed to the Redwoods for some good ol' fashion nature-time. We got to drive through the Avenue of the Giants, took a little nature walk, hugged a couple trees, and felt really small among thousand-year-old giants. After the Redwoods we headed to Santa Cruz. The girls got to surf Pleasure Point while I soaked in some rays and snapped some photos. I've always wanted to surf Santa Cruz but like my sister once told me, "always give yourself a reason to go back." So I've already made a mental note that another Northern California road trip is in order before the end of next year.
After a quick overnight visit to Santa Cruz we headed for Big Sur. Ahhh.. more time to breathe in the outdoors. I will never get over how beautiful the views are! I wish we could have stopped at every viewpoint! Right before sunset we used the rest of our wood for a beach bonfire, drank red wine, and ate crackers and cheese, and hung out on the beach well into the night. The next day the girls surfed Sand Dollar Beach.
And right before jamming straight down south we stopped in Cayucos for some of the yummiest fish tacos at Ruddell's Smokehouse. Denae and I went last year on our little Big Sur and Fur adventure and had to make the stop again. Highly recommended if you ever find yourself in the area!
After that we made quick stop in LA to run an errand [a hilarious story only reserved for our friends] and made it to Encinitas by the next morning. It was an amazing trip and wish it could have been longer. Which is always a good thing. You never want to be on a trip and really happy once it's over. Right? Definitely a trip that was worth an unexpected purchase and a broken arm. Hehe.
Coastal Cruise through Northern California. The end to an [almost] perfect trip!
