Finally made our way back from our trip down south and we’re exhausted. Getting some down time before I’m up in the air and back in Hawaii. What an amazing road trip. We managed to jam pack heaps of adventures and good times within a week. We drove over 1600/km from Sydney to Melbourne and back. 1600 kilometers!! The 8 hour [straight] drive back was pretty grueling. But so worth it. We stopped off in some rad new places and hung out with some pretty rad friends. We managed see most of Sydney’s city, fit in a couple surf sessions, wake up in beautiful Avalon, go boating and wake-surf in Cornulla, swim in secret water caves, hang out with wild kangas at Pebbly Beach, go shell collecting at random beaches, have an early morning skinny dips in the Bass Strait, climb Mt. Oberon at Wilson’s Prom, hang at Bells Beach in the warm sun, drive the Great Ocean Road, and spending an afternoon/evening in Melbourne. All in a week. One week.

I wish we could do it all over again. Maybe with heaps more time. A year please?? Hah. NSW to Victoria is absolutely beautiful. There is so much to see and do. Places to surf, trails to hike, cafes to hang at, coffee to be drunk, shops to shop, people to meet, and memories to be made. And I have to say I had one of the best traveling partners. Which makes such a huge difference. Having a like-minded travel buddy is probably the most important part of a good trip. I have no complaints. It was one rad, adventure-packed week! Definitely one for the books.

CITY SLICKIN’

(Jacket: Rag & Bone, Tee: Club Monaco, Shorts: One Teaspoon, Clutch: Samudra x Ladyslider, Booties: Rebecca Minkoff)

Hopped on a plane and headed to Sydney for the start of an epic road trip down south! One of our first stops in Sydney was Surry Hills. Such a rad little area. It rained heaps on us but we managed to duck into a bunch of little shops and keep semi-dry. It was a nice little glimpse of the city and makes me what to come back for more. There just isn’t ever enough time to explore it all!

So.. if you guys don’t already know One Teaspoon is having a major warehouse sale on their website and I got my fair share of killer deals. And it’s where I got my nifty Outlaw shorts. I would wear these everyday if I could. They are the perfect oversized/boyfriend style and my new favorite pair of shorts. If only I could have one in every color. Lucky for me.. I did some shopping damage and have a couple other backup pairs in different styles. You gotta love a good sale.

Speaking of good sales.. or selling in general.. there are more Samudra x Ladyslider on the SHOP! Get them while you can because once they’re gone.. they are gone. Done forever. I have been using the crap out of all of mine. I am pretty sure I see hints of black and blue on them. Bruised from the tolls of traveling and everyday use. But has been the best travel companion. It even fits my DLSR camera along with all my other necessities! I may be a little biased but they are great for traveling in the city too.

Doing a little city slickin’ in Sydney.

PS. Heading south now! See you guys along the way!

INSIDER SLIDERS

insider-sliders-1insider-sliders-2insider-sliders-3insider-sliders-4insider-sliders-5insider-sliders-6insider-sliders-7insider-sliders-8

Even though the waves have been pretty small over the last couple of days we have still made it a point to get a few sessions in. I think I have been in the ocean just about every day. And I’m not complaining. Between Byron Bay and Noosa headlands we have been getting our fair share of rides. No matter how small.

I am loving all these point breaks and how they are nestled among the gum trees. Enough reason to pack up all my stuff and forget my life back home for a while. The longboardable waves are endless. Slow moving, peeling, glassy little nuggets all along the coast. Even when the waves barely break above the knee.. I am satisfied. It doesn’t get much better than this. Well.. kind of. Give me some peeling 2-footers and I can die happy. But I don’t think I am ready to keel over just yet and the little ones are just as fun.

Enjoying those insider sliders.

BLUES FEST FESTIVITIES

blues-fest-festivities-1blues-fest-festivities-2blues-fest-festivities-3blues-fest-festivities-4blues-fest-festivities-5blues-fest-festivities-6blues-fest-festivities-7blues-fest-festivities-8blues-fest-festivities-9blues-fest-festivities-10blues-fest-festivities-11blues-fest-festivities-12blues-fest-festivities-13blues-fest-festivities-14

This past weekend seems like ages ago. I have dubbed it the weekend of youth. The festivities we partook in made me feel like I was nineteen again. Between Saturday and Monday we surfed fun little sliders at The Pass, camped in the backyard of a friends house, had a wild night out, did some damage to the credit card at local shops, made some rad new friends, and snuck in to the Blues Festival.

It was a weekend to remember.

I can’t even believe we successfully made it into the Blues Festival! It was a mission and probably the best part of the whole experience. The sneaking part. We went through a creek [that was probably the bathroom runoff from the festival], crawled through spider/snake invested forest, and attempted to sneak under the fence. The whole Macgyver experience ended up being a failure and we walked straight through the entrance instead.. and they let us in!! Hahah. Besides a few scratches, a broken finger and sandal.. it was a success. A fun, exhausting one.

This adventure is for the books. The Blues Fest festivities.

LAST RESORT

last-resort-1last-resort-3last-resort-2(Swimsuit: Tallow Gallery, Shorts: True Religion, Sunglasses: Dior)

We just got back from a weekend in Byron Bay partaking in Blues Festival activities and I am exhausted. It has been an epic collection of adventure and mishap over the last couple days. All of which I plan to share with you within the next couple days.

But before I do I just wanted to give you a taste of the festival life. This was taken earlier today and the last clean pair of clothes I had in Byron. A Tallow Gallery one-piece swimsuit that I bought at their blowout sale and an old pair of denim shorts. Everything else was covered in mud and sweat. Which leads me to believe there is a fine line between chic festival goer and unbathed backpacker. A fine line that I am not quite sure which side I fall on. But I know that one more day in that town and I probably would have a set of dreads and uncontrollable body oder. I’m not exactly ready to channel my inner Woodstock just yet.. and now I am thinking I need to work on my effortless music lover [in the mud] look. Whew.. so glad I had one more pair of clean threads!

Thank goodness for last resorts and good purchases.

A WEEKEND IN ANGOURIE

I got to spend one of the dreamiest weekends camping in Angourie with a handful of friends. This little excursion alone satisfied any expectation I had for my trip down under. We packed up our gear [including a healthy number of surfboards], loaded into the car, and road-tripped south for a couple days. A couple days well spent.

We used most of our weekend hours surfing.. and a little campsite searching. Ended up finding the best little zone nestled in the dunes overlooking a little beach break. We got ourselves a couple of really good sessions at that spot. Oh, and the stars at night. The stars! You wouldn’t believe how gorgeous the sky was. It lit up like millions of tiny diamonds exploding in a pool of vastness. And the sunsets.. and sunrises. Beyond any line of words could describe.

Such an unbelievably satisfying weekend. I am smitten.

A weekend in Angourie.. and well spent.

Finally.. decent internet and a chance to sit down and go through all the photos from the last couple weeks! I have found it a struggle to find time to log on to the world wide web when you’re traveling. But that’s when you know you’re having a good time. Good for me. Not so good for the handful of people who are might actually want to see whats going on. And by handful I am talking about my mom and sister.. and maybe my dad.

These photos are just a glimpse in to the logging days, long drives, and many adventures we went on over the course of a week. I am smitten. It has been a great trip so far. And I still have more to share! Just got back from a mini camping/surf trip in Angourie and have been surfing perfect point breaks on the Gold Coast! I feel so unbelievably blessed to be here. And blessed to just be.

Heaps of other little road trips and coastal adventures coming up soon. Cannot wait to experience it all and share it with you!

The first log of diaries down under.

PS. I don’t know if you noticed but Brooke and I both got outfitted with a couple of Two Crows Surfboards just before our trip. Just in time to make it on the plane and help us wiggle our way through Australia. I am so unbelievably stoked on my lady log. It has been the perfect board.. great for trimming and [somewhat] making my way to the nose. Boards make such a huge difference. I don’t want to toot my own horn or anything but I’m pretty sure my surfing has gotten a little bit better since my new board. There is something to be said about that. Thaaaaank you Two Crows!

A LOGGING MOMENT

a-logging-moment

I still haven’t quite gotten through all the photos from this past week and I need to. My camera memory card is full and I need to tackle that technological beast soon. But I finally have a day to sit down and relax. And by relax I actually mean get some work done. I am currently sitting in a coffee shop in Burleigh Heads. [Awkwardly.. I might add. I'm pretty sure this isn't the kind of coffee shop you bust out your computer at. Dumb American.]

So far this will have been the longest, least planned trip I have ever been on. I booked my ticket the night before my flight, rented a car on the spot, wandered into the city to find a vacant campervan, and slept and surfed where ever the wind settled. In one week Brooke and I have been up and down a portion of the Eastern Coast [several times], surfed a handful of new waves, met heaps of new friends, hung out with old ones, and had the time of our lives. And that was only one week. Now my travel buddy has gone back to Hawaii and I am deciding what to do for the next month. An entire month of impromptu traveling and last minute plans! Yew!

Fortunately, I have an Aussie/Hawaiian friend in the area and have settled at her place for a while. She’s already been a crucial part of our random weekend adventures and shown us the ropes in Noosa. So thankful for friends like that. Tina is one of those gifted Hawaiian girls that just so happens to be Australian too. The best of both worlds. But I also think that’s why surfing is such an amazing lifestyle and culture. You can travel half way across the world and find a friend in a foreign place. We are a part of such a rad community of openminded, salty skinned, well traveled creatures. Her and I just went logging this morning and watched the sun rise. It cannot get much better than that.

I will try to organize my photos and share more travel adventures. In the meantime, we will be planning our next adventure [camping and surfing in Angourie for the weekend please?!]

To logging adventures and great friends!

IN A VAN

in-a-van-1in-a-van-2

(Jumper: Isabel Marant, Jacket: Gap, Wetsuits: Various)

Brooke and I have been living out a van for the past week. Life is pretty simple when everything you presently own fits in a suitcase and sits comfortably in a van. I’ve gotten pretty good at snatching out random outfits and avoiding the use of dirty clothing.. among other things.

I think I have also mastered the art of getting us lost.. and finding our way again. Flipping a U and reversing [not to mention driving on the opposite side of the road] can be added to my driving repertoire. I feel pretty comfortable roaming the roads of the outback.. with an occasional double back.

And strangely enough I feel incredibly comfortable in this country in general. It is like America with an accent.. except they have cleaner beaches and public bathrooms [I speak from experience as they are used as my personal shower and grooming area.] I think I was meant to be here. To live. I could just live the remainder of my youth in a van by the beach in Australia. Something to look in to. I just have to figure out how to avoid looking like crazy homeless girl in the process.

Life in a van.. in a foreign land.

ON THE GOLDY

on-the-goldy-1on-the-goldy-2on-the-goldy-3on-the-goldy-4(Jacket: Gap, Linen Shirt: thrift shop find, Leather Shorts: Haute Hippie, Sunglasses: Dior)

Hi friends. I’m in Australia!! It only took me a week to finally say that! I have heaps of photos and stories to share but I have to start from the beginning. My poor eyes could only handle a few photos so I decided to start it off simple. A quick outfit post.

[Unrelated to the outfit] and a long story short: I had to jam up to Noosa the moment my flight landed.. in a rental car.. in the middle of the night.. in a country I have never been to.. to pick up a friend. Then we jammed back down to the Gold Coast the next day to catch the final of the Quiky Pro. Only to get stuck in traffic and miss it completely. Haha. But we did get to spend the next day lounging around the beach enjoying the perfect peeling waves at Kirra and Snapper Rock.

[Now related to the outfit] living out of a suitcase can be a very difficult thing. Especially when it is stuffed in a campervan with no easy access. I basically had to pull each article of clothing from my luggage and piece together whatever came out. It ended up being pretty appropriate. A recent Gap jacket purchase, my favorite white linen shirt, and a pair of comfy leather shorts. A nice little laid back fashion mix..

..but I have a feeling the next month is going to be a whole lot of wrinkled, thrown together outfits. Completely spontaneous.. just like my travel plans. I will try my best to keep you updated between the mound of unorganized clothing and my travel indecision. What to wear? Where to next??

But for now I’m on the goldy.. and more to come.
