I always make it a point to spend time down at Waipi'o Valley when I go back to the Big Island. But very seldom do I make it to Pololu Valley in Kohala. And I hate to say it [because I always claim Waipi'o Valley to be my favorite place on earth] but Pololu is pretty dang magical. If I made it there enough.. it would probably be at the very top of my list.
We happened to go the day Hurricane Ana was supposed to hit the islands. And despite everyones warning to stay indoors we headed North anyway. There was no wind and light drizzle the entire time we ventured down and around the valley. And very little people. It made the whole experience dreamy. Trisha [the snack champion] brought down a bottle of champagne among all the other goodies and that made the whole experience so much more fulfilling [and filling.]
I don't think the trip down the valley would have been as amazing if the sun was out and the danger of a hurricane wasn't approaching. There is something magical about the light drizzle and the overcast lighting that made the whole experience more special. And I don't think I would want to go back down the valley without a little rain. If I do, I'm not sure I would have the same feelings as I did on this particular day. It was one for the books.
The other valley.. the best valley.
