Happy New Year! I'm back from a much needed vacation from the inter web. It was an eye-opener.. a breath of fresh, unadulterated air. If I could, I would give up this gig completely. Yes I would. My second, well-calculated life [that takes more concentration and eye straining than real life.] But if I were to go off the grid that would be generational blasphemy.. social media suicide. I would be a modern day hippie, wouldn't I? Not like the Big Island needs anymore of those.
I'm just being dramatic. It's not that bad.. but you get my point. To be honest, a lot of my friends on the Big Island have a healthy relationship with their other [social media] half. With the exception of a few people [you know who you are, suckahs!], I never felt like conversations were interrupted or felt an awkward silence when someone decided to check their Instagram or Facebook instead of being present. That's a rarity in our generation. We have become so dialed in, that checking your phone becomes second nature. But that's what I like so much about this island. Everything and everyone are so much more laid-back and way less interested in what else is going on elsewhere. They are present. Which was really nice because there were a lot of adventures to be had on this trip!
One of the highlights of my visit home was finally being able to surf again! The last couple times I came back to the Big Island my arm was still healing from its injury. But this time I've been getting my fair share of waves. I love those glassy morning and evening sessions. You're almost always guaranteed those buttery waves if you go at the right time.
Speaking of which.. it's late and I'm planning on making it to a little morning surf session with my friend. So rather than linger and try to think of more to say..
I'm back at it!
