My girls Brooklyn and Cassandra from Roam Hawaii are at it again and just came out with a rad little project.. Single Fin. This little brain child will be a limited collection offering unique, one-of-a-kind, vintage inspired bikini tops, t-shirts, and other hand-embellished [and refurbished] fashion goods.

Fashion goods aside.. I absolutely love the way they laid out their campaign. Cute little polaroids, hand-picked outfits, and a plethora of island goodness. I cannot help but be a little proud for these girls. After all, they are my girls. I love seeing my fellow sisters doing rad things and creating a little niche for themselves. Itʻs pretty humbling to be surrounded by people with amazing talent and creativity.

Get it while itʻs available and fall in love with the surfing lifestyle all over again at the SHOP.

The Single Fin Project. Be apart of it!

LIFE IS GINGER

life-is-ginger-1life-is-ginger-2life-is-ginger-3life-is-ginger-4life-is-ginger-5(Photos by: Brooklyn Hawaii + me)

Life has been pretty quiet around here lately. With the knee still in recovery and a hiatus from any kind of  fashion spending its hard to keep up when there’s nothing to keep up with! And.. I lost my eyeglasses. I cannot see a thing [and it took a lot out of me to fashion this post alone.] So I’ve been spending a lot of time lounging in the sand.. figuring out ways to stay motivated and productive. New specs would help a lot.

I also haven’t been in the photo snapping mood lately. But isn’t it crazy how one little flower can change everything?? I think it would probably be pretty redundant for me to constantly keep updates on.. lounging on the beach. Wah wah. But one fell swoop with my gardening shears and a trip to the beach spiced it up a bit. Don’t you think?? I’ve been pretty fascinated with ginger spears lately.. I even started conducted minor research on the flower. Such an interesting simulation in my life right now. Did you know red ginger symbolizes passion and strength?? I’m exploring this.

Anyway.. I just wanted to make sure you all knew I was still here! Breathing, existing, living! I have a couple of really exciting things coming up and am looking forward to sharing it with you all. In the meantime I will be staring at grains of sand and looking forward to the day I can be sliding and creating again!!

Life is still pretty ginger.

IN REMISSION

in-remission-1in-remission-2(Photos by: Brooklyn Hawaii)

I have not gotten 2013 off to a good start.. physically. In between a minor concussion [from GoPro blow to the head] whilst air-mattress surfing and injuring my knee with a lackluster explanation 2013 is definitely trying to tell me something. I’m getting older.

On the bright side it has given opportunity to more beach lounging, sister pow wows, and creative endeavors. For the next couple weeks I will not be distracted by the surf forecast and other things that involve use of my major limbs [I guess my head doesn't count. bleh.] But I do have to get out of my south pacific funk and remember I am back in the real world. It’s hustle time. No more lounging on motu’s and carelessly swimming in lagoons! Which is perfectly fine and I have come to terms with it. Time to work on those New Years resolutions and check things off my list! Let the creative juices flow and business-woman-attitude reign!!

In [physical] remission until further notice. Now pumping on [creative] iron!!

OF THINGS TO COME

of-things-to-come-1of-things-to-come-2of-things-to-come-3of-things-to-come-4of-things-to-come-5(Photos by: Brooklyn Hawaii and me)

There are so many things in the works for ladyslider! It’s like an exciting little adventure for this virtual fashion sliding traveler. Exciting and a little nerve racking. Who knows whats going to happen next?! But in a very short time there will be T-SHIRTS and other hand-taylored goodies available on the ladyslider SHOP!!

And I wanted to give you all a sneak peek before they are up and ready for purchase!

I cannot even believe it but I am biting the bullet and actually designing [and sewing.] Sewing. It is my love and my angst. I love creating beautiful things [or so I think they are beautiful haha] and bringing them to life. But I do not love sitting hunched over a sewing machine for hours to make it happen. Take a look at that little halter number. It took me forever to make. Forever. I think I am a little rusty. From pattern making to the finished product. I cannot even remember the last time I did that. College?! But it is happening and you can partake if you so choose to be a consumer of ladyslider goodies. Stay tuned!

A little peek of things to come! Get your coconuts ready!!

INSIDER SLIDERS

(Photos by: Brooklyn Hawaii)

I will be the first to admit two things.

Number one: If the waves are up on the North Shore.. I am on the hunt for smaller waves elsewhere. Even if that means sliding on tiny ankle snappers in rainy weather. And especially if it is with good friends whom you are taking surfing notes from. Ahem [Lady Issa De Mar].

Number two: One of my best friends [Brooklyn Hawaii] is a magician with a camera. There are your typical surf photos and then there are your artsy surf photos. She gets it. I needn’t say more.

Surprisingly, I feel like we have been getting in more surf sessions than usual this time of year. If you count ankle snappers and barely-there-waves. I’m not complaining. But maybe that means we are getting more desperate too?? Haha. Who knows. All I know is that it’s better than sitting at home and twiddling your thumbs as you wait for the rain clouds to roll by. Tiny waves and rainy days it is.

We are insider sliders.

SISTERS OF THE SEA

(Photos by: Brooklyn Hawaii & Risso)

I love being inspired by the same girls I get to hang out and surf with everyday. I think these images speak for themselves and I don’t really want to ruin it with all of my run-on sentences. They are the kind of images that evoke feeling and wanderment. For me anyway. There is a sense of freedom and spirit in them. It reminds me so much of who the girls riding the waves truly are..

..my sisters of the sea [plus a sneaky monkey.]

EASTER DAZE

(Photos by: Brooklyn Hawaii, TR & ME)

Spent Easter Sunday in good company, with good food, and being blessed with an everlasting promise! It was such a beautiful day. The weather stayed sunny and breezy while we sat in grass eating yummy food and chatting with friends. And even though it may have gotten a tad stormy.. we ended up surfing anyway. Cannot go a Sunday.. especially an Easter Sunday.. without surfing!

I recently got my E&J top and thought it was appropriate for Easter.. floral, pastel colors, etc. My man and I somehow dressed appropriately and looked like a couple from the 70′s. Personally, I think I kind of looked like a hippie man from the 70′s with my hair down. But whatever. Hahah.

To an Easter Sunday Daze.. Happy Easter Everyone!

DREAMING OF KAUAI

(Photos by:me & she; Top: Gap, Shorts: Wonderland Denim, Sandals: Cynthia Vincent, Clutch: India travel find)

I’m cold. I’ve only been in New York for a week and I am already looking forward to wearing shorts again and basking my unexposed legs to the sun. What a brat. But the idea that moving to New York might be real is really making me homesick. Yeah, you got that right. I never thought I would but I am considering the possibility of moving to NYC. I was never that person. I thought New York would eat me alive. But I guess not. I guess I am pretty adaptable.. or crazy stupid. I can’t decide.

But I love the beach and sea breezes and surf and maybe I should stop there.. But it can be an especially hard decision when I can’t wear outfits like these. Shorts, loose fitting top, sandals always. Exposed body parts basically. And toes that can really stretch out. I know I am being dramatic. There are other seasons besides winter. But I am stuff it in now and my body is frozen. Gah, what a decision I need to make in the next couple of months.

In the meantime, I will be dreaming of lazy days on Kauai.

THE BOTTOM LINE

(Photos by: she; Bikini Bottom: Tori Praver Swimwear)

A couple of things I’ve realized within the last couple of days:

1. I don’t know how to “model”.. I don’t like to “model”.. so I laugh in all my photos.

2. I’m obsessed with bottoms. Any kind of bottoms.

I actually don’t mean to be obsessed with bottoms. I really need new tops. My shirt/blouse/t-shirt wardrobe has been eaten alive by cheeky little bugs on a vengeance. But I somehow always find bottoms. I found these Tori Praver Swimwear bottoms on sale and had to get them. Floral, feminine, and ruched. Perfecto beach lounging bikini bottom. I actually don’t own any string bikini’s because I thought my hips gushed out of them. But these somehow work. Not complaining.

In that respect, I don’t think we should ever limit ourselves in fashion, style, clothing, etc. etc. etc. Actually, don’t limit yourself in anything. But that’s a whole another ball of butter.

The bottom line is.. I’m loving these bikini bottoms!

THE SHORT ON SHORTS

(Photos by: me and she; Shorts: Wonderland Denim by Jess Shedlock)

Made last minute plans to spend the weekend on Kauai. Best decision of 2012 so far. What a dreamy weekend. It is so tempting to leave life behind and go live like a hippie on the garden isle. I’m sure no one would notice! First stop: Polihale. The weather was perfect! From where we staked out there wasn’t another soul in sight. Just thinking about it makes me sigh deeply. Such a little dream world.

I recently got these shorts from Wonderland Denim by Jess Shedlock and practically lived in them all weekend. I couldn’t take them off! They now bear the signs of true travel attire.. including a big coffee stain on the crotch area. Still rocked um! Jess is pretty amazing. She took the time to make the shorts exactly how I envisioned them.. which is pretty cool considering I’ve never had a pair of custom denim made before!! Definitely check out her work. It’s almost like the shorts are meant to be for certain people.. so maybe you’ll find your shorty match!

In the meantime, you’ll be seeing more Kauai throughout the week. Definitely more shorty short shots. Hahh.

Keeping it short on the shorts. Long weekend, short shorts.
