ALL THE LITTLE THINGS

(Necklace: Holst + Lee, Top: Cut25 by Yigal Azrouel, Shoes: Osborn, Sunglasses: Chloé)

I have been going through a bit of a fashion lull for the past week or so. I’ve actually been getting all of these great steals and have all these little numbers that I should probably be getting some use out of. Unfortunately, the last couple of weeks have been pretty fashion-less for me. Besides my late night creeping on all the Spring 2013 Collections online.. very little effort on my personal style has been made. My body and closet has been style-neglected.

But I guess that happens some times.

And I kind of like it. It’s nice to escape from a world of well-curated outfits, color matching, and thoughtful accessorizing. Not that I do that all the time. Because I don’t. Sometimes I imagine myself wearing knit gaucho pants, linen tunics, oversized headbands and Birkenstocks all the time. I am sort of into that kind of thing. I could sell soap at the farmers market and regularly attend co-op yoga. And you may think I’m joking but that life is very appealing to me. How do people do it?? I wanna know!!

Hippy dreams aside.. I had to buy myself a new pair of sunglasses because I lost [yes, lost] my favorite pair of Chloé’s! It was a very sad day for me. I went for a beach walk and forgot to pick them up after I took a dip in the ocean. Gone somewhere in the sand. I considered posting “LOST” signs around the beach and grocery store. I would have made a killer hand-drawing of them. That’s when I realized I was just being silly. Yes of course there’s more to life than a great pair of sunnies. But my gosh it feels so good to get little fashion finds to cure temporary [sunglass] sadness. Right??

All the little things.

DESTINATION BEACH

(Top: Surf Bazaar, Shorts: 7 for all mankind, Sunglasses: Chloé, Jewelry: Hinu)

Even though the weather is chilly and wet it is always worth a try at the beach. You know? I don’t know what else to do on the weekends anyway?! Strong trade winds, showers pending, peek-a-boo sun, on again off again. The weather was teasing us all weekend. It really makes me appreciate those rare winter days with dead winds and sunny skies.. especially at night when the air is still and the moon is full. When will we ever get those this winter?! I still appreciate my time at the beach though. Digging my toes into the wet sand, watching people try to battle the wind-blasted waves, running across the beach to “get the shot” of a random rainbow, snacking on deeeeelicious spicy edamame and coco water, good conversation with friends. You can’t really complain.

Rain or shine the weekends are meant to be spent at the beach. In Hawaii anyway.

FREE WEEKENDS

(top: gap, bikini: pualani, jewelry: peru & brazil finds, sunglasses: chloé)

The best weekends are spent completely free from obligation, finding a little patch of sand, pitching a tent and roam around the beach. All day. A couple weekends ago were spent like that. If I could spend every weekend camping I would. Sherwood on the east side of Oahu holds a special little nook in my heart. I have so many memories as a child spending the weekends sunburned, eating sandy cream cheese and crackers, and getting an occasional Portuguese-Man-O-War sting. I still remember some of the outfits I wore. No joke. Now, I definitely think a button-down is a necessity and not just for the beach. I love clothes that can go from the beach out to the bar, you know? This Gap button-down has definitely seen a few beaches and bars all in the same day. Ahh, the versatility. I hope that some day my entire wardrobe will be that way.
