THE SURF BAZAAR

the-surf-bazaar-1the-surf-bazaar-2the-surf-bazaar-3the-surf-bazaar-4the-surf-bazaar-5the-surf-bazaar-6the-surf-bazaar-7I’ll be spending the next several months of my life in this little shop here. And I thought it only fair to share a few glimpses of this amazing, eclectic little shop. I’m not even sure if I ever explained what I was doing in Montauk. So I guess this would be a good time. I will be running and managing The Surf Bazaar shop at The Surf Lodge. It is probably the hippest, most well curated shop in town..in my opinion anyway [but I might be a little biased.] Bethany Mayer [the owner and designer] does an amazing job at selecting products, brands, and designers that all work beautifully together.. creating this amazing, versatile and very colorful space.

It’s not a bad gig. But you wanna know something funny? I told myself I would never work in retail again. Ever. And here I am working in a small shop, at one of the most notorious hipster hotels, on the most Northern tip of Long Island. But to be quite honest I see amazing opportunity in all this. Who knows where I will end up next but I hope this will be a catalyst for something huge and beyond my reach until now. We shall see.

The Surf Bazaar. A shop worth the shot.

JUMPER

jumper-1jumper-2jumper-3jumper-4(Jumper: Étoile Isabel Marant, Shoes: Soludos from Surf Bazaar, Jewelry: various)

I have a deep appreciation for jumpers and one-pieces. It is the easiest way to get dressed. One fell swoop and your outfit is picked for the day. Just throw on a pair of shoes [appropriate for the occasion] and you’re good. Done.

But I always thought I was the kind of girl that dressed for myself. I buy colors, silhouettes, and styles with a complete disregard to other peoples opinions. Especially men. But apparently not all that is true. This jumper gave me a lot of attention from quite a few men the other night. Believe it or not [yeah.. I couldn't believe it!] I always had this idea that men liked women in anything tight, short, and revealing. And I am sure that still stands very true. But I definitely didn’t think they particularly found my style appealing.. which led me to believe I was incredibly unattractive from a male minds perspective. But maybe some men like to leave a lot to the imagination and appreciate a cool silhouette or print every once in a while. And I do need to be clear about one thing: these complimenting men were not cute gay guys wearing a pair of short cuffed shorts, designer shoes, and oversized glasses. These were men.. like a “man’s man” kind of men. It was kind of weird. They must like the garbage truck driver look on a girl..

Anyway. When all is said and done jumpers, overalls and one-pieces will always be my favorite article of clothing. Whether I get a second glance or not. Hah.

My favorite jumper.

BAGGY WITH WRINKLES

baggy-with-wrinkles-1baggy-with-wrinkles-2baggy-with-wrinkles-3baggy-with-wrinkles-4(Jacket: Billy by Flying Tomato, T-Shirt: T by Alexander Wang, Pants: Wilster, Boots: Rebecca Minkoff)

I have been crazy busy for the last week and finally found a bit of time to post one of my last [documented] outfits in Arizona. It was one of those random outfits that I just threw together and somehow worked for me. I think mixing prints [especially animal print] is somewhat of a special art. I have a friend who is really good at it. I am not so good and it usually happens by mistake. But most personal styling mistakes work in my favor. Even if I never press out my wrinkled pants and wear completely unflattering fits. That’s just how I roll sometimes.

Baggy and a little wrinkled but I don’t care!

BLUE AND WHITE

blue-white-1blue-white-2blue-white-3(Top: Cut25, Shorts: One Teaspoon, Sandals: Marni, Clutch: Samudra x Ladyslider)

Been hanging around the desert for the last couple days and trying really hard not to sweat all over my clothes. Kidding.. but not really. It is hot. I don’t think I ever loved air conditioning as much as I do now. The last time I was in Arizona the seasons were turning into winter with cool days and colder nights. Now it is one consistent heat wave. Expect its not a heat wave for these crazy Arizonian people. While I’m struggling to breathe the hot dry air everyone else is going on jogs and riding bikes like it ain’t no thang. My sister is one of them.

But I’m just dragging a bad joke on too long. It’s not that bad. I’m just being a little dramatic. And all the more reason to wear short shorts and my new Marni jelly sandals. I was so stoked when I found those bad boys on Ebay [my go-to for designer items I cannot afford without giving up a kidney.] I thought they would be the perfect alternative to wearing slippers. So far so good. I feel like a fashionable little girl. Not gonna lie.. I got a couple weird stares because of those jellies. But I don’t care. I love them and I’ll wear them until they melt. Which is kind of unnerve because it could happen sooner than I think if I stay here much longer. Hah.

A blue outfit, white wall and handling the heat.

THE SINGLE FIN PROJECT

the-single-fin-project-1the-single-fin-project-2the-single-fin-project-3the-single-fin-project-4the-single-fin-project-5the-single-fin-project-6
My girls Brooklyn and Cassandra from Roam Hawaii are at it again and just came out with a rad little project.. Single Fin. This little brain child will be a limited collection offering unique, one-of-a-kind, vintage inspired bikini tops, t-shirts, and other hand-embellished [and refurbished] fashion goods.

Fashion goods aside.. I absolutely love the way they laid out their campaign. Cute little polaroids, hand-picked outfits, and a plethora of island goodness. I cannot help but be a little proud for these girls. After all, they are my girls. I love seeing my fellow sisters doing rad things and creating a little niche for themselves. Itʻs pretty humbling to be surrounded by people with amazing talent and creativity.

Get it while itʻs available and fall in love with the surfing lifestyle all over again at the SHOP.

The Single Fin Project. Be apart of it!

OUT OF AFRICA

(Marie Claire Netherlands, Photographed by: Hans Van Brakel, Model: Sophie Vlaming, Stylist: Simone Dernee, Hair/Makeup: Judith Neyens)

Iʻm always inspired by fashion editorials that incorporate travel and some sense of adventure. I am especially drawn to those that imply safari adventures. Which makes me realize that Africa may be a travel destination I should explore more seriously.

But besides its assumed wanderlust I love how this Marie Claire Netherlands editorial was styled. Headbands, boots, khaki, and animal print. Right up my alley. I am really digging the layering and one-pieces too. From a graphic perspective I am really digging the way it was laid out. Animal spottings and travel clippings?? Yes and yes. Such a perfect combination of travel and fashion.

Out of Africa and in with style.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

on-the-road-again(Overalls: Zara, Tee: T by Alexander Wang, Clutch: Marie Turnor, Earring: Gabriela Artigas, Ring: Gabriela Artigas, Bottoms: Unknown via Tumblr, Sandals: Isabel Marant)

Since I’ve been in Hilo and feeling the weight of being fashion-less.. I have been doing a lot of online window shopping for summer. Shopping carts have been thoroughly built and internet windows will remain opened until I muster up enough cash to make some purchases.

But I am super excited for this summer. I will be en route to Arizona and The Grand Canyon [!!!!!] in a couple weeks and then on my way to Montauk, NY! Yesssss, Montauk! I will be spending the summer working and surfing the hip atlantic ocean scene! So naturally, I need to start considering my style options. I have been pining over the overall trend for quite some time. Let me tell you. And it took me a long time to find a pair that I liked [and in my price range.] They have been found. Of course I chose to match it with a pair of Isabel Marant stilettos that are completely out of my price range. But a girl can dream. I have also realized more recently that I am white t-shirt kind of girl. There is something about a good fitting basic white tee. Sometimes I look in my closet and realize that’s a majority of what I own. I guess I just really know my style or I am turning into some sort of “superman” fashion victim [a closest full of the same outfit]?? Oh well. I have also been obsessing over the Valley Eyewear DB’s in Matte ever since I saw them in Australia. I think I need them. Match it all with a cute little picnic clutch, a pair of high-waisted bikini bottoms, and minimal jewelry.. good to go. I would wear this outfit everyday of summer. If I could.

I am also in the process of re-reading On the Road by Jack Kerouac. I thought it would be appropriate as I will be doing a bit of road tripping in Arizona and scaling across the country to New York. It’ll be the perfect summer read.

On the road again!

GYPSY DREAMS

gypsy-dreams-1gypsy-dreams-2gypsy-dreams-3gypsy-dreams-4gypsy-dreams-5I don’t usually like to coin the word “gypsy” but I felt like it was the only way to appropriately describe Camilla Franks’ line of Caftans, Kimonos and other amazingly oversized threads. And her newest collection is appropriately named Gypset. Of course. I would happily own every single one and wear them until the day I die. Such great statement pieces. And I’m not going to lie.. I am even considering a try at that lipstick trick. Why not?

Coming from a theatre background, Camilla is able to create these amazing theatrical experiences for fashion shows in exotic places nonetheless. I would love to be apart of one of those. Can you imagine?! Maldives, Greece? Avatar themed production? It is always refreshing to have a different perspective in the fashion industry. I absolutely love her focus on vibrant, unique prints. Forget all the production dramatics.. the prints alone are its own visual and sensory experience!

I’m in a gypsy dream.

COLD COCONUT GETS HOT

cold-coconut-gets-hot-1cold-coconut-gets-hot-2The Cold Coconut pouch was getting a lot of face time during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia via the fashion savvy Oracle Fox lady. So I thought it was appropriate to give it a little more limelight and extend its 30 seconds of fame.

It was quite fitting under her arm.. maybe a little intimated by all the designer threads it was matched up with?? Nonetheless.. that little black and white pouch will always be my favorite. The perfect representation of all things tropical and travel.
