INTO THE PACIFIC BLUE

I found that the best times to get into the ocean are early in the morning. Tourists sleep in, residents have to work, lazy people don’t get up before 10am.. But more importantly, the water is most clear and the winds are usually very light. It’s a dream.

This was the best part about staying on Hapuna beach. We had the whole beach to ourselves in the morning. It felt like we had the whole pacific ocean to ourselves too. No one in sight. The beach and ocean looked untouched. The sand still had neatly layered ripples.. undisturbed by human feet. It was the most beautiful thing to see. All I wanted to do was lay at the surface and let the oceans tide ripple passed me. All day.

I want get lost in the pacific blue.

INTO THE DEEP BLUE

(Photos by: TR)

It’s official: Summer is here. The last of the waves have come and gone and now we have to look to town for waves! But in the meantime: we’ll be dipping into the ocean without boards and snorkel in hand.

We took a couple snaps with our trusty GoPro, dodged a couple eager tourists, and made our way out into the deep blue ocean. I’m really look forward to long sunny days, cloudless skies and more time getting to know the sea. I’ve decided for as much time I spend in the water I know so little about my salty friend. I kind of want to dedicate this summer to understanding and getting to know the ocean on a deeper level. That sounds really hippie, doesn’t it? Well, true it is. The tides, the creatures, the activity, the works. A self taught marine biologist if you will. Hahhh. We’ll see. It’ll be an ongoing challenge to myself.

In the meantime: I’ll be diving deep into the blue they call sea.

SLIDING DEL MAR

(GoPro Photos by: TR)

After being in California and surfing a couple times I think I could cold-water-surf on a regular basis. Oh you know.. I could get used to having numb hands and feet for a couple hours after a surf session. But really.. growing up and surfing in Hawaii my entire life gave me a bit of a stunted experience with wetsuits and kelp. The first couple of times I had to wear a wetsuit it took me nearly 10 minutes to put it on. It was a struggle. But now I must be a pro! Master wetsuit wearer! Bahaha!

Staying in Del Mar had to be the best part of my California vacation. We didn’t drive once the entire weekend we were there. We rode bikes every morning to check the surf. We ate at yummy local eateries. We slept in every morning. We surfed with dolphins and hung out with a seal or two. It was pretty magical.

Best of all.. sliding Del Mar was so dreeeamy.
