OPEN FIELDS

(Photos by: TR)(Dress: self made with vintage fabric, Top: Trouvé, Sandals: Martin Margiela, Clutch: Samudra, Jewelry: Hinu Jewelry)

So we traveled all the way out to the East Coast for a wedding and I decided to bring a little bit of Hawaii with my outfit. Everything down to the shell rings! Except maybe the top which was my attempt at being conservative. Needless to say that thing came off right when the music started and didn’t go back on my shoulders until the end of the night! Thankfully we got our luggage less than 48 hours after we arrived so I could actually wear my planned wedding outfit!! Haha. Yes, it was a premeditated outfit.. something I rarely do. But in all honestly I find that dressing for weddings is probably one of the hardest [fashion] things to do. I don’t always have a really nice dress [warranted for the occasion] hanging in my closet. Maybe I need to work on that..

But like I said before, this is one of the most fun weddings I have ever been to. Not only did the wedding last from Friday evening to Sunday morning but I literally danced the whole night of the [actual] wedding. I think I stopped for 5 minutes to scarf down some dessert but as long as the music was playing everyone was dancing!! It was set at The Quechee Inn [this beautiful bed and breakfast nestled between a sleepy lake and picturesque trees] and everything you imagine from a quaint little Inn. You can tell by the photos how gorgeous this place was. I’m pretty sure it is what made my outfit look even better in the photos. Nature was my arm candy… or better yet.. nature is just absolutely gorgeous it makes anything else glow! Corny, I know. But kind of true. Nothing like frolicking in open fields to get to warmed up for a night of wedding festivities!

Fashion and open fields.

SUMMER HEAT

(Photos by: TR) (Top: Urban Outfitters, Shorts: Quiksilver, Jewelry: Dezso by Sara Beltran & Hinu Jewelry)

The August summer heat has been killing me. It may say it is the end of summer on a calendar but the heat is definitely telling me otherwise. Not to mention that I got the gnarliest sunburn from a 4-hour surf session over the weekend. Times 2. I did it twice.. I obviously didn’t learn the first day so I had to paddle out the next day and really take my skin for a test drive. You can probably tell from the photos that I am baked. My eyes too. I had a little freak out and thought I had developed Pterygium from only two days in the water. Rest assured.. it hasn’t happened yet. But I’ve definitely learned my lesson. I’m actually considering being completely covered the next time I paddle out. Long sleeve, leggings, hat. Goggles or sunglasses too.

The sun got me pretty fried. After a couple of days I am still trying to nurse the redness off. Combine that with being in a constant state of sweatiness and we’ve got problems. Dressing for these special weather occasions can be difficult. Indeed a special occasion. You don’t want to sweat all over your cute clothes but you don’t want to go prancing around naked (I actually would but it’s illegal.) I also had to keep my sunburn in mind. Even the slightest touch set off a small whimper from my mouth.

Luckily, I had these old threads laying far in the back of my closet. I don’t usually wear strapless tops or dresses but this was definitely a special occasion. It may seem strange but this little outfit helped me ward off any additional pain and my sweat glands from overworking. And it turned into a nice little number for the day. I loooove my Quiksilver corduroy shorts. It reminds me of my dads old OP ones he used to rock when I was younger. They are so incredibly comfortable and the color remind me of watermelons. Which I should be eating right now to ward of any additional moisture on my body..

..oh this summer heat!

ON ROTATION

(Photos by: TR) (Top: SUNO, Bottoms: 18th Amendment, Head Scarf: Vintage, Sandals: Rood & Haan Co., Jewelry: Hinu, Dezso, and Michele Leong)

My accessories were on high rotation over the weekend. I pretty much ended up wearing the same thing every day. Not because I had no other choice or anything like that. The whole accessory getup seemed appropriate for the weekend.. especially the head scarf turned turban. It is a functionality and decorative aspect of summer style for myself. It keeps my seaweed hair out of the way and adds a bit of color and dimension to any of my outfits. I’m especially keen on finding vintage scarves. They are really hard to come by. I’ll search any where from Savers, Salvation Army and the occasional Ebay browse. When you find a good one it’s like finding gold!!

Anyway, these quick snaps were taken right before we rushed down to the pool. I cannot remember the last time I lounged at any pool let alone order drinks and pupu’s. Can you tell I’m not used to that kind of life?? Haha. Most of the time you’ll find me in my little hut in the country sitting on a futon munching on granola or something. Hah. But it was such a nice treat. Maybe I could move to Bali and have that lifestyle for real?! But that’s a whole other category of possibilities.

So into the summer with my accessories on high rotation!

FASHION ON STAYCATION

(Photos by: TR) (Top: Roxy, Pants: India Street Find, Bikini Top: Raisin by Roxy, Head Scarf: Vintage, Jewelry: Hinu, Dezso, Michele Leong, Pouch: Samudra)

I got to spend the Memorial Day weekend in Waikiki for a little “staycation”.. something rarely done. And so I guess this is what fashion looks like when you’re on vacation on your home island?? Hah.. a little bit of this and that pulled together. I literary grabbed a bunch of stuff from my closet and threw it into a bag hoping it would all work out. No thought or pre-meditated fashion here! I suppose it did work in its own way.. a gypsy kind of way.

I have to admit: I forgot how beautiful Waikiki and it’s ocean is. All different shades of blue speckled with people on boards, yachts, and canoes. It’s kind of nice to be relaxing by the pool with live Hawaiian music playing. No wonder tourists buy into it so much!

It was such a nice little getaway. I’d hope to think it will happen more.

GREEN AND GREEN

(Photos by: Michele Leong) (Top: T by Alexander Wang, Shorts: Quiksilver Women, Sandals: Cole, Rood & Haan Co., Jewelry: Dezso by Sara Beltran, Hinu Jewelry)

I have been so incredibly exhausted the last couple of weeks. So much things going on!! Exciting things too. But I am pretty sure I have aged 10 years and got hit hard with some age defining lines. Double the wrinkles. Not so exciting.

But I killed two birds with one stone today and got to hang at a coffee shop with a dear friend and work at the same time. I guess that might be three stones because I don’t often hang at coffee shops. I should more though. Wait.. four stones because I actually took photos too. Hmm. So much accomplished! How sick is that green wall?? Such a great color. Nothin’ but green.

I got me some killer deals on my tee and sandals from Nordstrom Rack on a quickie shopping trip the other day. So stoked. I love good staple items for my closet on a budget. I am going to wear them to death. So if you see me around I will probably be wearing one of the above. Now that you know them you can say “oh haayy” when you see them.. on me.

Alright friends. Back to work. See you round! I’m gonna be green fo’ daze.

TWO AND A HALF DECADES

(Dress: ALC, Sweater: Trouvé, Bag: Samudra, Shoes: Franco Sarto, Jewelry: Hinu and Dezso)

It was my birthday and I’m not afraid to admit it!! So.. I’ve always been a little standoff-ish about my birthdays in the past. It’s a weird time of year for me. I never like to draw attention to myself or do anything on the day of my birth. But this year I decided to have a little get together since it is a pretty pivotal year. I turned 25!

I used to be deathly afraid of getting old. I wanted to and still want to stay young forever. But within the last year I’ve started to realize how good it feels to grow older and wiser. I feel so much more comfortable with myself, the people around me, and the world  then I did.. say.. 5 years ago. As you grow older you get such a better sense of your place in the world and your worth as a human being. Your contribution to the people and world around makes a lot more sense as you grow in years.

On  a fashion note, I am in love with the ALC dress I snagged at a Barney’s Warehouse sale in New York. Not so thrilled about the actual snag I got in it by the end of the night. I’m led to believe I wasn’t meant to have pretty/nice things without it being damaged the first time I wear it (I had another shirt completely damaged on a wild night out. Bar hand stamp ink stains, agh!!) I guess it just keeps me fashion humbled. Hah. Also, the newest addition to my Samudra pouch quiver. One of the benefits of working for a rad company: you get to keep the samples and rock it before they are available!

So, my birthday in a nut shell. Thank you to all my friends who celebrated with me and those who were there in spirit! I appreciate you folks so so much!! Life is worth each year knowing I get to share it with you!

The big two-and-a-half-decades. Yikes!

OLD TOWN CRUISING

(Photos by: TR; Top: Vintage Escada, Shorts: 18th Amendment, Flats: Gap, Jewelry: Hinu)

While I was in California I loved hanging out in the old parts.. like old town. Yes I know it’s touristy. But I love the old buildings with character and nostalgia of the Spanish-Mexican architecture and the plentiful of colors and the plethora of textures. One day I want to build a little studio that looks like all those old buildings. I think it would make a fantastic little place to nest.

Anyway, the vintage silk Escada strawberry top I am wearing is one of my favorite pieces in my closet. I scored it a couple of years ago in a thrift store and it is still hasn’t lost its luster. When I first picked it out I got made fun of by my sisters. They told me I pick clothing that looks like it came out of our grandma’s closet. Oh, but they were mistaken. Granted I made a few adjustments (like taking off the overly-tacky gold buttons) I get so many compliments on it!! And those are the best kind of fashion finds. Unique, colorful pieces that no one else will have.. unless someone (like my grandma) digs it out of their attic and starts prancing around in it. It is vintage after all. Ehehe.

And so, I thought it was so appropriate to be wearing something old somewhere old.

ON THE EVE

(Photos by: various.. haha.)

I thought I would share a few snaps from my New Years Eve. Definitely an interesting and different one.. that’s for sure. We started the night off right with some Kaito Sushi.. and then a cab drive that ended with my suede leather pants ruined by someones split beer in the back seat. Booooo! Thank the heavens my Fabio-esque shirt covered the mark (for the night. hehe.)

At the end of the night, it was all worth it. Good times and good company. And to wake up on New Years Day with an ocean view in Del Mar wasn’t half bad either (thank you SO much Jim and Michele!!!)

Now with my vacation over and tons of photos I think the next week might be dedicated to my vacation! Hope it won’t feel like the dreaded invite-my-friends-over-to-watch-projections-of-my-vacation-that-they-don’t-really-care-about-and-will-probably-fall-asleep-half-way-through!!!

But more important.. on and over the eve and into the new year!!!!

CALIFORNIA CHRISTMAS

(Photos by: TR; Top: T by Alexander Wang, Jeans: MM6 by Margiela, Flats: Cynthia Vincent, Sunglasses: Crush, Jewelry: Hinu)

We got to spend Christmas day out at a California ranch house with family, friends, good times and tons of amazing food. It was such a beautiful day and I felt incredibly blessed.. to be exactly where I was.. at that moment.

Now, the ranch house. Filled with amazing goodies that I will post later. Antiques galore! American Pickers would go crazy at this place! There were even persimmon preserves from the 70′s (not intentional though.. haha! They accidently got left to preserve a little too long!) I was especially drawn to the orchard. I wasn’t carrying around that persimmon for looks!! All kinds of goodies in all shapes and forms.. I’m telling you!!

I also got a new handy-dandy camera for Christmas (thanks jennifer, I love it!!) It’s a Fujifilm Instax! Probably one of the coolest gifts of the season! I have been getting good use out of it for sure! Maybe you’ll even see the fruits of it’s instant labor too. ;)

All in all, a very enjoyable Christmas away from home.

DESTINATION BEACH

(Top: Surf Bazaar, Shorts: 7 for all mankind, Sunglasses: Chloé, Jewelry: Hinu)

Even though the weather is chilly and wet it is always worth a try at the beach. You know? I don’t know what else to do on the weekends anyway?! Strong trade winds, showers pending, peek-a-boo sun, on again off again. The weather was teasing us all weekend. It really makes me appreciate those rare winter days with dead winds and sunny skies.. especially at night when the air is still and the moon is full. When will we ever get those this winter?! I still appreciate my time at the beach though. Digging my toes into the wet sand, watching people try to battle the wind-blasted waves, running across the beach to “get the shot” of a random rainbow, snacking on deeeeelicious spicy edamame and coco water, good conversation with friends. You can’t really complain.

Rain or shine the weekends are meant to be spent at the beach. In Hawaii anyway.
