BEACH SLIDERS

While I was spending my week by the beach [a couple weekends ago] a friend of mine came all the way from Australia for a brief visit. We grew up together but now she has the privilege of calling herself Aussie [I'm jealous]. And she didn’t even have to marry one to get the passport! But more importantly, we got a chance to hang out, eat some guacamole, and take a quick dip in the ocean before heading to the airport. The good ol’ trusty wavestorm enabled a pretty fun mini-beach-sliding session and I think sister got her hooked on amateur water photography too! Ahhaha!

It is so nice connecting with childhood friends and sharing a common love/bond with the ocean. There’s something very special about old friends and finding a mutual place in the sea. We had good conversation and a reminder that time doesn’t change real friendships. It was such a breath of fresh air and very much needed.

Beach sliding friends never die!

A DAY IN THE SEA

(Photos by: me)

My friends and I spent some much needed time in the sea. No surfing, no catching waves, just being. And an occasional handstand. But that’s all we really needed. I think its okay to just float and let the waves pass you by once in a while. Nothing more, nothing less. There’s a purity in being a part of the water. It’s like being a part of something bigger than what we really are. Our tiny little bodies get lost in the oceans vastness and for a brief moment you [in some ways] no long exist. It’s a humbling place to be.

As tiny, undiscovered creatures drifting and spending a day in the sea.

CHEERS TO THE WEEKEND

(Photos by: Jennifer Binney & TR)

Every part of my body is sore from a fun-filled day of surfing and cruising down at the beach. This morning we popped out of bed, got our gear together and spent the entire day at the beach with friends (although I didn’t spend much time with friends because I was surfing the entire time. Eek.) The waves were so fun I don’t even think you understand how much I am still beaming inside from the session.

Okay, I have to admit I had doubts about this spot. It was the first time I’ve ever surfed it. Can you imagine I have been living here my entire life and never experienced this wave?? I felt like I was at a California beach break with no kelp or a need for wetsuits. I stand corrected, Jennifer. I hope there are huge waves all winter loooong. ‘Cos this is where you’ll find me the next couple months!!

When’s the next swell anyway??

(PS. I know that photo of my sandals seem a bit out of place. But for some reason those are the shoes I slipped on this morning and wore through the sand. I found it amusing. A friend gifted them to me from a recent trip to India and I am in love with them. It’s no wonder I wore them I guess. Thanks Michele.)

LITTLE THINGS

(sunglasses: karen walker)

Sometimes I take the little things for granted.. like long walks on the beach with best friends and happy pooches. Now, I know that the whole “long walks on the beach” bit is incredibly corny.. but it’s true.

Let me enjoy the corn for a moment.

KAILUA SLIDING

(swimsuit: bantu, jewelry: hinu, street vendors.)

Hello, world. If you know me, you probably know I’ve been talking about opening up to the world wide web (via bloghoggin’) forever. I mean, a really long time. And I kept talking about it. And stressing over it. And doubting myself. And trying to choose a website name, a layout. And spending hours at night with my eyeballs glued to the computer (and now my eye sight is twice as bad as it used to be. True story. Went to the optom the other day.) So would you believe I had the hardest time deciding what my first post would be?? Well whatever you decide to imagine (or not) I really wanted to encompass what my life (and this blog) is all about: surfing, fashion, traveling, etc., etc.

So here it goes:
I got to house sit the other day for some amazing friends in their equally amazing beachfront home in Kailua, Oahu. So my man and I packed up our stuff (which isn’t hard to do because I keep most of my life in my car anyway) and spent the weekend lounging around the beach. I have never surfed Kailua as much as I have within the past year. And I have got to say, the waves are pretty fun. There’s a bit of variety and very little people. Anyway, We decided to take the GoPro out and shoot some shorebreak in front of the house. So fun! The suit I am wearing is Bantu with the funnest print and great for surfing. I’m in love with one piece suits and cannot find enough of them. They stay on so much better than bikini’s. And they make for good coverage, thank god.

Whoa mama, all that was so long winded. Sorry. I have to go rest my eyeballs now. You can’t imagine how long I sit in front of the computer. They’re about to pucker out!
