My girls Brooklyn and Cassandra from Roam Hawaii are at it again and just came out with a rad little project.. Single Fin. This little brain child will be a limited collection offering unique, one-of-a-kind, vintage inspired bikini tops, t-shirts, and other hand-embellished [and refurbished] fashion goods.

Fashion goods aside.. I absolutely love the way they laid out their campaign. Cute little polaroids, hand-picked outfits, and a plethora of island goodness. I cannot help but be a little proud for these girls. After all, they are my girls. I love seeing my fellow sisters doing rad things and creating a little niche for themselves. Itʻs pretty humbling to be surrounded by people with amazing talent and creativity.

Get it while itʻs available and fall in love with the surfing lifestyle all over again at the SHOP.

The Single Fin Project. Be apart of it!

I finally got a chance to go through all my Moorea photos and relive the magic of the motu. It was definitely an adventure for the books. I will never forget it. I cannot tell you how much I would love to go back and do it all over again. Maybe a few less Hinano’s on those restless nights though. Hahahhh.

But I met some of the raddest, most generous, easy-going people [ever] on this trip. There is something about those Tahitians. It must have to do with the Polynesian-French mix permeating on the island and in the water. The groovy south pacific and culture of love. They are doing something right. It must be in the ocean water. Not to be mistaken with the tap water [which gave me an unexpected rush in my belly for several days after I got home. eekkk.]

And there is something magical about that motu. I can just close my eyes and imagine myself there.. and suddenly my body relaxes with little to no effort. I could float in those waters forever. I actually made it a [mini] goal of mine to find a husband for EU passport purposes [merely a business transaction.. 2 years commitment tops.] I didn’t have any takers. It’s either because the tradeoff of a US passport isn’t a hot commodity or I am not a very desirable wife. Couldn’t decide. Hahhha. Regardless.. it is a trip to tell my children [Tahitian or not.]

Living it easy in the south pacific.

SISTERS OF THE SEA

(Photos by: Brooklyn Hawaii & Risso)

I love being inspired by the same girls I get to hang out and surf with everyday. I think these images speak for themselves and I don’t really want to ruin it with all of my run-on sentences. They are the kind of images that evoke feeling and wanderment. For me anyway. There is a sense of freedom and spirit in them. It reminds me so much of who the girls riding the waves truly are..

..my sisters of the sea [plus a sneaky monkey.]

ROAM FREE HAWAII

(See more: here)

I have a lot to share about my recent travels but before I do I wanted to let you guys peek at an exclusive viewing of the new Roam Hawaii look book for summer.

These are a couple of amazing, beautiful, talented island sisters. Too many adjectives?? Too bad. Each and every one is well deserved. All of these girls designs are handmade in Hawaii and they work extra hard to make sure they are made with aloha.

Check them out if you can. You’re going to want one of everything. Maybe two. Just in case.

5 DAYS WITH ROAM + QSW

DAY 1: COFFEE SITUATION

DAY 2: TRAVEL NECESSITIES

DAY 3: HEALTHY LIVING

DAY 4: COSTAL VEHICLES

DAY 5: OUTFIT

Over the last week I participated in the Instagr.am 5 Day challenge for Roam Hawaii and Quiksilver Women. I was kind of in to it. Okay, Okay. I was really in to it. I’d like to think I’m too old for contests like that.. but I am competitive and can’t help myself. Who am I kidding?? This one time I stayed up all night on the Lucky Magazine website and entered over 100 giveaways and contests. Craaaazy person.

Anyway, things like this are quite refreshing. It gives you an opportunity to see your life at a glance. This is my life at a glance I suppose. I’m still not really sure what it means.. That I am really in to my hands?? 3 of 5 photos include them. Hah. I look a little lazy.. and that I could potentially have really crooked teeth. That’s why there are no photos of my face. Or something like that.

Personally, I’m really into Quiksilver Women. I have several of their threads and have gotten many compliments (including those coral corduroy shorts in my beach comb post.) I might have to do a little online browsing after this. Also, I am automatically a Roam Hawaii fan. It’s default. Plus, they represent such a great part of the Hawaii fashion gypsy life style. They’ve got some pretty rad stuff coming out of that tiger truck of theirs too.

So, my five days with Roam Hawaii + Quiksilver Women. Life at a glance.

BEACH COMB

(Photos by: Brooklynhawaii & me)

Got to get in a little beach combing session yesterday and fuel my obsession for beach wood, old tattered shells, and chunks of seas glass. When I was younger my mom always collected beach wood, smooth rocks, and interesting trinkets of nature. At the time I thought she was just a crazy hippie lady and a little embarrassed that she kept a “Rock Garden” on the dashboard of our already embarrassing Isuzu truck. Haha.

Now I understand her interest in the natural beauty of aged, beaten things and completely adopted her aesthetic. I am that crazy hippie lady that keeps smooth rocks and beaten shells in her car. Just like my mom. There is definitely a beautiful quality about sea beaten wood, shells, rocks, glass, and anything else that makes it way to the sea. I cannot even describe the idea of the sea and my relationship with it because everything I do and love always seems to come back to the deep blue. That’ll have to be a lot of thinking and concision before I can come up with the words. A different post.. maybe even a different kind of blog.

But now I’m getting all weird and deep. I just want to sit here and stare at all my new lovelies from our beach combing adventure.

THE BOTTOM LINE

(Photos by: she; Bikini Bottom: Tori Praver Swimwear)

A couple of things I’ve realized within the last couple of days:

1. I don’t know how to “model”.. I don’t like to “model”.. so I laugh in all my photos.

2. I’m obsessed with bottoms. Any kind of bottoms.

I actually don’t mean to be obsessed with bottoms. I really need new tops. My shirt/blouse/t-shirt wardrobe has been eaten alive by cheeky little bugs on a vengeance. But I somehow always find bottoms. I found these Tori Praver Swimwear bottoms on sale and had to get them. Floral, feminine, and ruched. Perfecto beach lounging bikini bottom. I actually don’t own any string bikini’s because I thought my hips gushed out of them. But these somehow work. Not complaining.

In that respect, I don’t think we should ever limit ourselves in fashion, style, clothing, etc. etc. etc. Actually, don’t limit yourself in anything. But that’s a whole another ball of butter.

The bottom line is.. I’m loving these bikini bottoms!

THE SHORT ON SHORTS

(Photos by: me and she; Shorts: Wonderland Denim by Jess Shedlock)

Made last minute plans to spend the weekend on Kauai. Best decision of 2012 so far. What a dreamy weekend. It is so tempting to leave life behind and go live like a hippie on the garden isle. I’m sure no one would notice! First stop: Polihale. The weather was perfect! From where we staked out there wasn’t another soul in sight. Just thinking about it makes me sigh deeply. Such a little dream world.

I recently got these shorts from Wonderland Denim by Jess Shedlock and practically lived in them all weekend. I couldn’t take them off! They now bear the signs of true travel attire.. including a big coffee stain on the crotch area. Still rocked um! Jess is pretty amazing. She took the time to make the shorts exactly how I envisioned them.. which is pretty cool considering I’ve never had a pair of custom denim made before!! Definitely check out her work. It’s almost like the shorts are meant to be for certain people.. so maybe you’ll find your shorty match!

In the meantime, you’ll be seeing more Kauai throughout the week. Definitely more shorty short shots. Hahh.

Keeping it short on the shorts. Long weekend, short shorts.

BY THE SEA

(Photos by: me)

I am so unbelievably tired from the weekend. I didn’t do much and it was quite relaxing for the most part.. but as the weekend closes I am ready to pass out and try to take Monday head first. I usually spend most of my time in Lanikai and can get really complacent to the beach and waves and sun and sounds.. but there is something very special about spending time with close friends in a beautiful place. It puts things back into perspective. It was the perfect little weekend getaway.

We got to spend the night watching the stars and falling asleep to the sound of the waves. And the most magical part about being by the sea.. the mornings. The sunrise. I’m not much of a morning waker but I wake up to the sun when I’m near the ocean. It’s a natural thing I suppose. It’s moments like those that remind me how blessed we are to be living and breathing.. and to be able to do it in such a beautiful place.

It was a magical little weekend by the sea.

ROAM HAWAII x HIPSTAMATIC

(Photos by: me & she; Swimsuit: Bantu, Skirt: F21, Sunglasses: Chloé, Headband: Nordstrom)

If you frequent Oahu’s North Shore or have only been there a couple times you’ve probably seen the Roam Hawaii girls.. [for a lack of a better term] roaming around. Oh you know, they only have a TIGER for a vehicle. They’ve got this awesome lifestyle-concept-mobile-store offering unique, one-of-a-kind clothing, accessories, jewelry, and the like. The artwork on their truck is even one-of-a-kind for goodness sakes!

I got a chance to tag along with them for a little surf safari adventure to one of the only spots on the north shore that were longboard-lady-sliding friendly [the swells are still rolling in for the winter season!!] Puena Point. We were able to shoot a couple of photos using our nifty Hipstamatic apps throughout our adventure. They’ve got such a unique quality, no? I’m snap happy on mine for sure!

If you can’t find them roaming [again, lack of a better term!!], wave sliding, or at the local fleas, you can also find their shop on Etsy. Check out my favorite: tees screen-printed in Hawaii!!

Looking forward to my next invite on the tiger-mobile already!
