I finally get to relive our trip along the Oregon Coast [pre broken arm].
It's amazing how this trip came together and how differently than planned. We were originally supposed to be riding in a 1984 Toyota 4-Runner [as mentioned before] but all my plans fell through days before our road trip was supposed to start. I went into panic mode. I wasn't about to call my friends and tell them the trip was cancelled. Laura was flying in from Hawai'i and Denae from California. I couldn't let them down. So 3 days before the trip I started my search on Craigslist for an alternative vehicle. 2 days before the trip I met a guy with a 1994 Dodge Ram Van in the Motel 6 parking lot. 1 day before the trip he had his wife expedite the title [notarized and transferred] and I had the van smogged and registered at the DMV with the help of my sister.
By 4pm on Friday, the 15th I was on the road towards Portland.. ready to pick up my friends the following day at the airport. I didn't tell them about the situation and surprised them at the airport. I rolled up in the RAM VAN and tooted it's horn. They were thrilled by the prospect of the van. Spaceous, a good radio, really cold AC, and completely unassuming. It would be our vehicle and sleeping quarters for the next week and a half. I knew it was gonna be a good trip.
We started off our trip in Portland and headed to the coast the following day. Right before we got to the beach the wind wipers went out. Uh oh. This is how I knew this trip would be an adventure. We surfed Short Sands all day then ended our weekend at Indian Beach with some wine and hot dogs.
It was a great start to our grand North-South Coastal Cruise. I couldn't have asked for better travel companions and bunk mates. Looking back I'm so grateful for everyones positive energy and open-mindness throughout the trip. And to think that days before all our plans had fallen apart. Thank goodness for quick thinking, supportive sisters, and creepy white vans for sale!
The beginning of our coastal Cruise in the Pacific Northwest! Enjoy/enjoyed.
