If you don't already know, I had the opportunity to hang out with and help Bloomingdale's open their brand new Honolulu store! It is a beautiful space located in the new west wing of Ala Moana Shopping Center. I had a blast showing Bloomingdale’s around the North Shore and joining them on their opening day!
I was so impressed with the layout and design of the store. I definitely think Bloomingdale’s is the most progressive, modern department stores out there. And they remained true to their unique, funky vibe with the new Ala Moana store. Black and white checkered tile included! They also added a little Hawai’i flair by curating an eclectic collection of Hawai’i-based photographers work [you can find throughout the store.] My personal favorite was a photo in men’s department on the second floor. It is an image of a guy sleeping in back of his ‘Yota. With the assumption that he was camping out (and quite possibly had a rough night), you can see his legs hanging over the back of the tailgate over a few layers of futons. I felt like it was such a raw and authentic image of Hawai’i life. I’ve been there a few times. Haha.
Walking through the different departments is a little overwhelming and my true consumer starts to come out. And even though you can find a lot of the same designers at neighboring department stores, I feel like Bloomingdale’s takes more risks, buys a little more funky styles, and keeps it really trendy. It's a breath of fresh air in the shopping world.
I scored a Bardot Lace top and skirt for the whole charade. I don’t usually wear pencil skirts but I am totally into this outfit. The lace helps funk it up a bit. And more recently, I have been wearing cropped tops. Yes, cropped tops. I don’t know why I waited until my late-twenties to start wearing cropped tops. I should have been rocking them a long time ago because once I hit my thirties.. they might be deemed a little inappropriate. But I don’t know. Maybe I will finally have a coming of age and suddenly be really hot in my 30’s. I doubt it, but I’d be okay with that. I digress and decided this is the perfect New Year’s outfit! YES!
If you have time, check out Bloomingdale’s and the new west wing at Ala Moana Shopping Center! I don’t go to town very often but it was worth the trip!
